Books from WDN08
It’s been a few weeks since Web Directions North, but there are a few books that have been on my radar since then.
First is Mental Models: Aligning Design Strategy with Human Behavior by Indi Young. I’ll be first to admit that I was a bit tired at the start of Indi’s session at the beginning of Day Two, but by midway through, I was truly engaged. I see this book paying dividends in helping both myself and clients in product discovery sessions. The book is available directly fromRosenfeld Media in electronic, print, or combo package. (If you are in Canada, keep in mind the $12 shipping and an extra $10 COD charge from DHL.) You can also pick it up from Amazon here.
The other two books come from Kimberly Elam’s session Five Essential Composition Tools for Web Typography. The first is her own bookTypographic Systems of Design. The second sprung to mind when she made mention of the famous design firm Pentagram in her talk - it got me thinking about a book (or collection of essays) I read about a year ago on the VSL called The Pentagram Papers.
I’m excited to dive into each of these. I’ll let you know how they go.
